World Championship Wrestling Presents…
Starrcade 1997
The Show began with Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Dusty Rhodes welcoming us to the show and running down the card, they said that tonight Kevin Nash will be unable to face The Giant.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Eddy Guerrero v Dean Malenko
This was a good little opening match, but it wasn’t up to the same standard as some matches between the two in the past. Eddy dominated the majority of the match, working on the knee of Malenko, it looked as if Eddy had it won at the 4 Minute mark after hitting a frog splash to the legs of Malenko, but Dean managed to kick out at two. The Majority of the match was spent on the ground from then on with both trading submission moves.
It was Eddy who would get the win after nailing a picture perfect Frog Splash to Malenko, Dean couldn’t kick out. Once the match was over Eddy celebrated with the Cruiserweight Championship before we cut to the back. Winner: Eddy Guerrero
The Camera cut to the back where the entire nWo was standing, They said that tonight Hulk Hogan will retain the WCW World Championship, they said that Eric Bischoff will gain victory and they said that on nWo-Nitro they would send a message to ‘The Hero’ Sting.
6-Man Tag Team Match The Steiner Brothers and Ray Traylor v Scott Norton, Vincent, and Randy Savage This was a good back and fourth match with neither team taking a massive advantage over the other, the match really could have gone either way in the end. The nWo tried to isolate Taylor not allowing him to make a tag to either of the Steiner Brothers, but Taylor soon managed to tag in Scott who brought his team back into the picture.
The End came when Scott Steiner locked Randy Savage in the Steiner Recliner, Savage couldn’t escape and eventually he had to tap out. After the match the nWo attacked the three men sending a message to WCW, The nWo will do whatever it takes to defeat WCW Tonight. Winners: The Steiner Brothers and Ray Taylor
Scott Hall came to the ring, he cut a promo saying that The Giant was lucky that Nash couldn’t be hear tonight, he said that he said that Kevin Nash would have destroyed The Giant if they went one on one tonight, however The Giant came out the two brawled for a few minutes before the camera cut to the back.
Goldberg is seen in the back warming up for his match against Steve McMichael, The camera soon cuts back to ringside as McMichael makes his entrance.
Goldberg v Steve McMichael Goldberg destroyed McMichael in around 1 to 2 minutes, the match was completely dominated by Goldberg and Steve McMichael got hardly any (If any at all) offense in the match. Goldberg just ended up toying with McMichael stopping many pin attempts so he could dish out some more punishment.
The End Came when Goldberg nailed McMichael with two spears and a jackhammer for the 1…2…3, Goldberg walked to the back celebrating. Winner: Goldberg
Raven came out accompanied by The Flock, they cut a promo saying that tonight they will destroy Chris Benoit.
Raven Rules Saturn v Chris Benoit
These two men put on a wild and chaotic brawl that went all around the arena, at many points in the match, Benoit had to fend of Raven and the Flock with a steel chair. Benoit took the early advantage brawling with Saturn up the ramp using any and all weapons they could find.
The Ending however came when Raven managed to hit The Raven Effect DDT onto a Steel Chair leaving Chris Benoit a bloody mess, Benoit couldn’t move and Saturn easily pinned him for the three count in what was a wild and hardcore match. Winner: Saturn
Buff Bagwell v Lex Luger
This was a good back and fourth match with both men getting in some offense, Bagwell spent most of the match trying to cheat to win but Luger always managed to seem to kick out. This was quite a slow paced match up, with both men getting some close near falls, neither man put out anything amazing but it was a quite good slow paced match up between the two men.
At one point members of the nWo came out to help Bagwell but Luger fought them off, Luger then went back to attacking Bagwell but, Buff managed to low blow Luger whilst the ref was distracted with the New World Order, Bagwell rolled him up and used the ropes for leverage as the ref turned around 1…2…3, Bagwell and the nWo celebrated as Luger walked up the ramp with an angry look on his face. Winner: Buff Bagwell
The Camera cuts to the back where Bret Hart says that tonight he will judge the Eric Bischoff v Larry Zbyszko match right down the middle, Hart then said that if anything got out of control he would put a stop to it.
United States Championship DDP v Curt Henning
This was shorter than expected, both men put on quite a good match with no one getting a massive advantage over the other, the match was filled with tons of near falls, including Curt Henning kicking out of a Diamond Cutter which shocked DDP and the crowd.
The Ending came when DDP ducked a clothesline and hit a Diamond Cutter this time DDP got the victory, try as he might Henning just couldn’t kick out of the Diamond Cutter this time. Winner: DDP
A Short Video Package aired highlighting the nWo v WCW Feud.
Larry Zbyszko v Eric Bischoff
The Fans where behind Zbyszko threw out the match as Bischoff was just so easy to hate, Bret Hart did what he said he was going to do, he cut it straight down the middle and fended off the nWo whenever he had too. Bischoff spent most of the match trying to get out of Zbyszko’s way, but Bret Hart made sure that the match got underway, and when it did it went very quickly.
Not long after the match began, Scott Hall managed to get past Hart and nail Zbyszko with a chair, Hart called for the bell and Zbyszko won, meaning WCW had control of Nitro and we would see Hall face Zbyszko at Souled Out. Winner: Larry Zbyszko
However after the match Scott Hall and Bischoff viciously attacked Zbyszko with a chair, Bret Hart grabbed a chair from ringside and looked as if he was going to stop the attack but instead Bret dropped the chair and walked down the isle allowing the beat down to continue. Hart had fended off the nWo during the match, he even called for the DQ so why had he walked out on Zbyszko?
A Video aired hyping Sting v Hogan.
WCW Heavyweight Championship Hulk Hogan v Sting
This was an amazing match, whatever one did the other retaliated in a very close, very evenly matched contest. Hogan at many points tried to cheat to win whilst Sting managed to counter every trick and everything that Hogan threw at him.
At one point it looked as though Hogan would steal it when the nWo came out to cost Sting much as they had in many encounters earlier in the night, but Sting wouldn’t go down without a fight, Sting fought off the nWo managing to knock them all off the apron with his trusty baseball bat.
But when he turned around he was met by a Big Boot from Hogan and a leg drop, it looked to be over but ‘The Dark Warrior’ kicked out with about a centimeter left before the ref’s hand would have come down for three.
Hogan was shocked, he took his anger out on Sting, but Sting fought him off whipped him into the corner and nailed him with a stinger splash, Sting then hit the Scorpion Death drop…
One… Two… ThreNO!
Hogan kicked out, the fans where angry they so wanted Sting to win this after a year feuding with the nWo, it was beginning to look like it wouldn’t be Sting’s night as Hogan dominated him, Hogan went for the Big Boot, but Sting caught him, and locked in the Scorpion Death Lock, the fans went wild, Hogan tired to crawl to the ropes but he couldn’t get to them, there was nothing he could do and eventually Hogan had to tap and Sting was once again Champion for the first time in over a year.
The nWo looked angry in the ring as Sting went up the ramp with the Title and his trusty baseball bat, Some WCW guys came up to congratulate Sting, The Giant lifted Sting onto his shoulders, Sting held the title in the air with his right hand and pointed at the nWo with his baseball bat, Sting had done it, Sting had overcome all the odds, all the obstacles in his way, Sting was once again Champion much to the fans delight. Winner: Sting!

Monday Night Nitro
Nitro opened with a Video package showing Bret Hart walking out on Larry Zbyszko and Sting becoming the WCW Heavyweight Champion. Nitro began with Bret Hart making his way to the ring clutching a microphone in his hand, the fans wanted to hear what Hart had to say about turning his back on WCW at Starrcade. Hart: Ever since last night people have been asking the same question over, and over again, Bret why did you walk out on Zbyszko? You want know why I walked out on Larry. I walked out on him because… Suddenly the nWo’s music played and the nWo came down to the ring, Bischoff had a microphone in his hand. Bischoff: Bret you don’t need to explain to these fans, we all knew that you did what you did because you knew that the New World Order is the future, and with Bret Hart along side the Former and Next World Champion, Hollywood Hulk Hogan there is no stopping us. Hart: All I did last night was what I was meant to, I called the match fairly and I stopped any interference during the match, and then I had done my Job, as for whether I have aligned with World Championship Wrestling or the New World Order, You’ll get your answer at Souled Out! Singles Match Goldberg v VincentThis was an extremely short match which saw Goldberg defeat Vincent of the New World Order following two spears and a jackhammer, the match didn’t last long enough for Vincent to get any offense in and Goldberg made short work of him, Following the match Goldberg nailed him with another spear. Winner: GoldbergBackstage The New World Order talked about how tonight they would make sure that Hollywood Hulk Hogan will get his rematch at Souled Out and at Souled Out Hogan will become Champion. They also talked about Scott Hall facing Larry Zbyszko and The possibility of The Giant facing Kevin Nash depending on the outcome of the contest between Scott Hall and The Giant later on tonight. Ravens Rules Chris Benoit v HammerThis was a relatively short match, Hammer didn’t get much offense in only the occasional attack with help from the Flock. The Flock looked to cost Benoit much as they had last night, but Benoit managed to fight them off, Benoit would eventually get the win after a few minutes of fighting Hammer when he hit a German Suplex which sent the neck of Hammer onto a Steel Chair. After the match The Flock attacked Chris Benoit before Larry Zbyszko appeared on the screen and said that Raven will face Chris Benoit in a Ravens Rules Match at Souled Out, after the announcement The Flock continued the attack. Winner: Chris BenoitTelevision Title Disco Inferno v Booker T
This was a decent match that saw Booker T win the TV Title after nailing Inferno with a scissor kick in a match that Booker seemed to dominate, despite the match not lasting very long. After the Match Booker celebrated with the Title. Winner: Booker TA video package played showing the Brawl between Hall and Giant at Starrcade. Singles Match The Giant v Scott Hall The Match Began with the New World Order attacking The Giant as he made his entrance, they beat The Giant down with chairs before the match began and eventually slid him into the ring to start the match. Hall took the early advantage with help from The New World Order but The Giant somehow got back into it. The Giant fought off the New World Order and took advantage, it was Giant who would eventually get the win after a Giant Chokeslam in the middle of the ring for the 1…2…3, after the match The Giant fought off the New World Order sending a message to Kevin Nash! Winner: The GiantBackstage The Steiner Brothers made a Challenge to The Outsiders to face them in a non-title match, and if The Steiner’s win they get a shot at the Titles the week after, Bischoff appeared and on behalf of the team accepted saying it would be a pleaser for Nash and Hall to put the two of them out permanently. Singles Match Lex Luger v Curt HenningThis was good whilst it lasted, good back and fourth action with both doing whatever they could to try and win the match, neither man had a distinct advantage for most of the match until the end when Luger dominated. In fact Luger looked to have the match won late on but Randy Savage came out and pulled the ref out the ring, Randy argued with the ref as Henning nailed Luger with a chair, the ref turned, Henning slid out the chair and 1…2…3, Henning has stole one thanks to Luger, after the match an angry Luger challenged Savage to a match at Souled Out, Savage nodded. Winner: Curt HenningA Video Played hyping the Sting/Hogan encounter later in the night. Singles Match Eddy Guerrero v Dean MalenkoThis match was even better than their encounter at Starrcade, they where given more time than expected and put on a fantastic Match, just like at Starrcade Eddy worked on the leg of Malenko, whilst Dean tried to get back into it. Guerrero and Malenko went back and fourth in a great match, that saw many near falls and many moments where you expected one to tap out, the ending came after a Frogsplash to the Leg of Malenko for the 1…2…3, this saw the conclusion to an excellent match. Winner: Eddy GuerreroAfter the match Eddy celebrated Another Video aired highlighting the Sting v Hogan Feud Non-Title Sting v Hulk HoganThis looked to be a great match, not as good as Starrcade but it had the potential to be great, with both men going back and fourth, one hit a strike, and just like at Starrcade the other retaliated with a strike of his own. Near Fall, after Near Fall and still no clear cut winner, but towards the end of the match the ref got knocked down, Sting nailed Hogan with a baseball bat, hit The Scorpion Death Drop but there was no Ref The Fans started to count but the ref was knocked out cold, the count could have gone to twenty but no ref, suddenly the New World Order attacked Sting, but Bret Hart ran down with a chair and the New World Order fled, Sting offered a Handshake to Bret, but Hart just walked out on Sting. Why Did Hart not accept the shake despite coming to the aid of Sting? And What will happen regarding Sting's Title at Souled Out? No Contest

Bagwell looked as if he would pick up the win but when the ref wasn’t looking DDP appeared fro seemingly out of nowhere and nailed him with a Diamond Cutter, Goldberg waited for Bagwell to get to his feet and nailed a Spear for the 1…2…3 Thanks to help from Diamond Dallas Page.
